The city is named after the Santa Ana River, which runs nearby, and the word “heim” (which is translated as “home” in German) was added to it. It boasts of over 20,000 hotel rooms and is home to the famous Disneyland theme park, which was opened in 1955 and is currently the biggest employer in Anaheim. Across from Disneyland, is the Anaheim Convention Center, which is the largest convention center on the west coast and hosts many national conferences. Also, in 2001, the California Adventure theme park was also added, and according to the trade publication “Amusement Business”, with the opening of The California Adventure theme park, Disney expected to attract an additional 7 million visitors, to the 14 million it already attracts each year.

Anaheim is also the largest and wealthiest of the 34 cities that make up Orange County, with over $1 billion in assets. Anaheim spent $5 billion in 2001 on the renovation of its resort areas. It is ranked as one of the safest cities in the Unites States.
