East Los Angeles, California automobile insurance coverage information

East Los Angeles, or East L.A. has an estimated population base of 123,500 and it is an unincorporated area in Los Angeles County. The area receives fire and police services from Los Angeles. The city is bordered by Los Angeles to the West, City Terrace to the northwest, Monterey Park to the northeast, Montebello to the east and Commerce to the south.

The city of East Los Angeles was founded in the late 1880s and has been home to many different ethnic and cultural groups coming into the area through waves of immigration. Following the Mexican American War, Mexicans living in Los Angeles were feeling the brunt of anti Mexican sentiment as the city was being repopulated by U.S. citizens and Europeans. Soon the Mexicans were banished to the other side of the river, which was East Los Angeles. The new city soon grew because there was such a boom going on in the area generally. There was a demand for labor because of the large growth in industry, housing and all this was furthered by the coming of the railroad. The area went through another major shift post WWII. When Mexican-American veterans returned home, they were more hungry to fight for equality. By the 1960s the Jewish community relocated to the West side and the Japanese community was hardly noticeable. The Hispanic community really started to flourish in the city after this period. In fact East Los Angeles would become the second largest Mexican group outside Mexico City.

Today, the area boasts the largest Hispanic community in the U.S. It is interesting to note that by the year 2040, the population of California will be 51 percent Hispanic (Mexicano/Chicano). That being said, the majority of this population will in fact, be living in the East Los Angeles area.
