Ford car insurance informationThe Ford Motor Company is an American icon. Today they are now one of the most popular brands in the auto world, partly because they have strived to manufacture reasonably priced Ford cars for the people. Ford Motor Company is the second largest automaker in the United States, and the fifth largest automaker in the world. It is also the eighth largest corporation in America, with sales in 2010 of more than 100 billion dollars and net profit of over six billion dollars. Ford employs more than 200,000 people worldwide, and produces over five million cars and trucks per year. Ford is the largest family-controlled company in the world, and has been under continuous family control for over 100 years. Ford did not become a publicly-traded company until 1956. Ford was founded by Henry Ford in 1901 and first incorporated in 1903. Descendants of Henry Ford are still employed at the Ford Company today. The history of the Ford Motor Company is fascinating and completely diverse. From the first car built by Ford in 1903, the Model A, to modern hybrids and electric vehicles, Ford's history is marked by innovation and success. By 1919, 50% of cars sold in the United States were made by Ford, and today's F-150 pickup truck is the single most popular vehicle sold in the United States. One out of every four vehicles sold by Ford is an F-150 pickup truck. Ford trucks have been manufactured since 1908. Ford and Lincoln are the company's signature brands, but Ford also owns stakes in the Japanese automaker Mazda and the British make Aston-Martin. Ford formerly owned Jaguar and Land Rover, but both makes were sold in 2008. Ford was an innovative manufacturing force from its earliest days. The assembly line was developed starting in 1908 and lead to mass production of the Model T. Assembly line manufacturing also reduced worker time needed for production, allowing Ford to significantly increase worker pay. Ford increased worker pay beginning in 1914 to a revolutionary five dollars per day, accompanied by a reduction in the work day to eight hours. Ford employees benefited greatly through these innovations. The pay increase improved the lives of Ford workers, but more broadly contributed to the emergence of the American middle class. These changes also served company objectives by allowing Ford to add a third shift to the production day. Company productivity improved substantially. Ford was active in war manufacturing, too. Henry Ford was a pacifist who opposed war, and agonized over the loss of human life. From a business perspective, he also objected to the loss of manpower and demand for products, and saw in war efforts a tremendous waste of resources. Even still, Ford Motor Company was actively involved in manufacturing for both World War I and World War II. During the First World War, Ford manufactured the Eagle Boat for the United States Navy and allied navies. This was a submarine hunter that was actually not made until 1918, and saw very little use before the end of the war. Many were purchased by the American military even still, and Ford committed significant resources to its manufacture. Beyond the Eagle Boat, Ford also produced helmets, tanks, airplane engines, Model T cars, trucks, and ambulances for the World War I effort. During World War II, from 1942 to 1945, Ford discontinued civilian vehicle production and dedicated all company resources to the Allied war effort. Ford continues to lead auto manufacturing with innovative practices and models. Ford's mass market appeal means that Ford car insurance rates are lower than other brands. There is no doubt about Ford's world-wide popularity with such high-selling Ford models like the leading family Ford car, the Ford Focus, or the affordable Ford Fiesta for new drivers, to the timeless Ford Thunderbird and Ford Mustang. This echoes in the number of Ford cars sold, which impacts the Ford car insurance rates because of the availability of Ford parts and Ford dealerships. Improved safety features on the Ford cars, like molded stereos and deadlocks help to reduce Ford car insurance rates. The higher specification on Ford Focuses, for example, offer high performance minus the hefty Ford insurance tag related with having a top-of-the-line Ford car. Ford vehicles are also popular with car thieves. The 1997 Ford F-150 model made the National Insurance Crime Bureau's (NICB) top ten cars stolen in 2004. There are over 196 million motorists in the United States, driving about 231 million registered cars. With so many people on the roads, highways and interstates-many driving Fords-car insurance coverage is there to make sure you are financially and legally protected in case of an accident.
