In 1987, Chrysler purchased AMC and stopped production of the CJ, replacing it with the iconic Wrangler. The Wrangler is still produced today, and still maintains the round headlights. From 1987 until 1995, Chysler produced a Wrangler with square headlights. Many Jeep enthusiasts playfully debate about whether round headlights or square headlights are superior. Originally, round headlights were created to swing back and forth in order to light up the engine carriage.
