Orange, California has an estimated population of 132,197 people and the city is situated approximately 32 miles southeast of Los Angeles in Orange County. Many cities in this region chose to demolish their older homes in the 1960s but Orange is different; many of its homes were built before 1920.

The area's first European landowner was a retired Spanish soldier named Don Juan Pablo Grijalva. In 1869, two lawyers from Los Angeles received 1,385 acreas of Grijalva's land as payment for legal services. The lawyers divided the land up to form a town. Later, in 1875, the name of the town was decided during a hand of poker - the four players each had a name in mind and the winner would name the town. The choices were "Lemon", "Orange", "Walnut" and "Olive". The new town of "Orange" was formed around a traffic circle which remains to this day. Like many towns in this area, Orange benefited from the "Orange Era" and grew tremendously in the last decade of the 19th century. The region grew a second time from the 1950s to the 1970s due to the construction of a network of freeways that brought people in from Los Angeles to build homes.
