Today Tacoma is home to some large international companies including the Russel Investment Group, Labor Ready Inc., and paper giant Weyerhaeuser. A high-speed fiber optic network was installed across the area in 1998 which made Tacoma America's #1 wired city. Tacoma is also known for its extensive tunnels underneath the city. Some people have reportedly explored the passageways even though they are not open to the public. In 2004 the city was voted to be in the top 30 of America's Most Livable Communities.
