By the time I was 21 years old I was the proud mother of 2 big head little boys age 2 and 3. I was in desperate need of my own transportation being that they were only 13 months apart. To go grocery shopping we had to load up a hand me down double stroller with grocery bags and make the journey home. We also used it for going to the laundry mat. I was not working at the time and could not afford to make payments on a car and I really needed help. My landlord at the time came to my rescue. He offered me a 1987 Honda Accord for only $700 cash. I jumped at the offer. And even though it provided me with the transportation that my family needed… It was a bucket to say the least. The latch on the trunk was broken and we had to use rope to tie it down. Every time I went over a bump the trunk would lift up a little and bounce back down. Also, this was in 2002 so my car was already 15 years old by the time she made it to me so the motor and transmission had taken a little beating as well. We could barely go above 50 and drove people crazy when they were behind me on the highway. The boys didn’t mind much though. They would sit back in their car seats and enjoy the ride. I drove that car until it wouldn’t move out of my driveway anymore. It lasted about 2 years and saved us from pushing groceries and dirty laundry in a double stroller. I have had 7 cars since then. But I will never forget my first car, I still have pictures of the boys sitting in the back.
